Kevin Talley (00:19)
Go.
All right, y'all. Welcome to the Treasure Vault podcast. This is our first official episode. I'm excited, y'all. I'm gonna call y'all the Vault Tellers, because we're gonna store up our vault, you store up ourselves, treasures in heaven where no moth can destroy. And we're promoting Christian businesses over here. So, as you might know, we just, we're chopping it up, you know, make sure we promote the kingdom, making sure we, you know, get our brothers and sisters in Christ on. Let's put them on. Let's do this. And we got some special guests in building today. We got Donatello and Won If you're not familiar with them, they're
Christian rappers also got their own businesses going on. So fail to introduce yourselves. Start with Donatello.
Donutello (01:02)
Yo, yo, it's Donatello, man. Hey, I'm just happy to be here, man. I am a Christian recording artist and content director from North Carolina, reside in Atlanta. And I want y'all to know that God is real, God is good. And I want to be a reflection of that through my walk. That's Donatello, let's get it.
Kevin Talley (01:25)
Amen.
Won (01:27)
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. It's your boy Won here. The one and only I told God I wanted to win. And what he say? You already won. Come on now. I'm 27 years old. Like now we met in North Carolina, but I was born in Georgia, residing in Georgia right now. I am a Christian rap artist. So if you got the bars, if you listen to this podcast, come on now. You don't got the bars. We got the bars.
playing with y'all, but we here man live and direct. We are faith is in the building. Very happy to be here.
Kevin Talley (02:04)
That's what's up. Hey, I don't know if I can rap. I think I might write something though. I'll get you one verse. ⁓
Won (02:10)
Okay, man.
Donutello (02:11)
Okay, come on,
Kevin Talley (02:13)
I ain't promising I can spit it, but I can write it down. Let's Anyway, let's get to some fun intro. like, you know, we're content creators, so we get inspired by things. So just want to know what's something like, oh, what makes you fall in love with music? Is there a particular album that you listen to where you're like, man, I think I can do that. Or it was just a message that resonated with you that like, I want to make music that's going to make people feel good or.
deliver a message to them. What album was that?
Donutello (02:46)
Yes, sir. I got you. Okay, so slight pivot don't have an album. What what got me into music is I'm gonna hold you I got dropped in here by force wasn't even my choice whatsoever. I'm talking about from the earliest myth the earliest memory I had. Well, I have a family member, a aunt. Shout out virtuous, but literally she was so creative and involved.
me and all my other cousins, you know what saying? Everything like that. But literally just drop me into making music like on some, hey, you're about to sing this song. This is your part. This your part. Say it like this. Hey, like, like four years old, five years old, like, hey, you're about to play this recorder right here. This is the note you got to play. Here it is. Play it. All right. Hey, you got to play this drum right here. Play it on the two and the four. Here it is. Play it. And then and then just, you know what saying? I just got dropped into it, man. And I think that ⁓
I think that is what kickstarted my love for music. So you feel me? To put it in layman's terms, man, I fell right into it, And then just from as early as I can remember, bro, I just have creatively just been, I guess, having an ear, you know what saying, for music and a love for music. And so for God to use that, ⁓ or for God to use that as a gift for me to bring glory back to Him, yeah.
Hey, we here. We doing it. Yes, sir.
Kevin Talley (04:20)
That's what's up. it's like you almost like streamlined into this. Like you liked it, but it was like, dang, I guess I'll do it now. Everybody putting me onto this.
Donutello (04:28)
You know what saying?
Won (04:31)
Word, word. Yeah, nah, that's fire. ⁓ I think my story is a little bit different from Don's. Like for me, I actually fell in love with music in the eighth grade. It wasn't even music though, it more so poetry. Like we had this poetry contest.
And essentially they published us a book in my middle school, Mineral Springs Middle School. So everybody wrote a poem in there and then they published a book and all the eighth graders got the book as like a present, like a graduation present at the end of the year. And my poem essentially just stood out. Like everybody was coming to me like, yo, this poem is fired. This poem is fired. This poem is fired. And I was like, yeah, OK, whatever. And then ninth grade, we had a poetry slam.
and I wrote a poem called Red Dress. And this poem, when I was performing this poem, it was in front of the auditorium, all the seniors, all the juniors was in there. I performed the poem, they was going crazy. They was going crazy. I felt like the man. Like I was walking, I walked out the auditorium, big stepper. I'm like, yeah, I run this school now. So that's really when I fell in love with music.
Poetry, it really started with poetry. It didn't even start with an album for real, shout out to Mineral Spring, out to Carver High School, man. That's where I really started to fall in love with writing and music for real.
Kevin Talley (05:57)
That's what's up. So yeah, yeah, that early confidence boost. He started off on fire.
Won (06:01)
Yeah, I started off on fire, but then they a few years later, I got booed off the stage. It was crazy. Like my relationship with music has been crazy.
Kevin Talley (06:10)
Mm-hmm. It's inevitable. It's always going to be that one night where somebody not going to like it. anyway, what was the red dress? If you don't mind me asking, what was the poem about? ⁓
Won (06:22)
It was about nothing that I was actually even doing in real life. It was about a fiction young lady that had a red dress. It was kind ⁓ of like a chase, right? Where you guy sees girl, girl looks attractive, guy's interested in girl. So now he's imagining like, okay, what would happen if I talked to her or what would happen if I pursued her?
It was kind of like the closest thing I would relate to Red Dress. It was like a dream. What would happen if I saw the most beautiful girl in my life? What would I say to her? What would she look like? What does she talk like? What does she sound like? That's what Red Dress was really based off of. I think people really resonated with it because it was so relatable. A guy and a girl, a guy chasing the most beautiful girl out there. So the ladies loved it, of course.
And the fellas, of course, they loved it as well.
Kevin Talley (07:23)
Yeah, that's one aspect of creativity that I think is, we really should focus on is that relatability aspect. Like that really just, you know, on top of the music sounding good, on top of the art being attractive, you got that, dang, he going through that same feelings I feel, you know, the same emotions I got. Like it's that relatability, just, you know, certain artists is like, you have a particular audience and you're just able to,
captivating them with what you're trying to convey, you know, through the message and everything. So that's a good trait to have, just that relatability. always encourage that. If I could drive.
Donutello (08:03)
That brother's a poet. That brother's a poet. Well, yeah, definitely, man, for sure. And I think that, you know, when you have ⁓ a gift and you exercise in it, the Bible says that your gift will make room for you. And I think that walks in alignment with that is that ⁓ like everybody might not be your audience.
and everybody won't be your audience. But there are specific people that we are called to reach that are in our troop, you know what saying? In our tribe, in our audience, you know I'm saying? you know, that's specific to every creative, you feel me? Finding your audience.
Kevin Talley (08:53)
Yep. That's what's up. And I pray and hope this right here is going to be with all of your audiences. So like I had multiple audiences after this. ⁓ So, ⁓ another fun question. So when you, when you really about to just depend a paper or you got a song coming up, you prefer to hear the beat first or you prefer to write down the lyrics first?
Won (09:01)
Yeah.
Donutello (09:02)
on
Won (09:18)
Okay, okay, I'll tackle this one. ⁓ I think it really depends. I think it depends on the vibe. Like sometimes I'm looking for a beat and when you hear that, when you hear the 808s going and then you hear the melodies going, it's like, okay, I got to write to this. Or sometimes it's like that poetry aspect that I was talking about where I'm just trying to get my feelings off, right?
I'm trying to vent, I'm trying to talk to God, I'm trying to talk to my mom or talk to my bros. And so I'm writing this song, not even desiring to really put it on a beat. then when I hear a beat that mixes well with the message that I already wrote, at that point, yeah, already got something for this. And I go ahead and lay it down. So for me, it's really based on the vibe, for real.
Donutello (10:06)
Yes, and I'll second that. I'll second that and say that it is very situation based on 100%. It's very situation based. And what I mean by that, ⁓ as far as like in my my writing process or approach is when it comes to you feel me, ⁓ whether I'm a listener to the beat first, or I'm a down first, literally, you know, the Holy Spirit may give me
something as far as a cadence. He may give me a cadence, you feel me? And then it's like, okay, now we got to go find a beat that aligns with this cadence. Or I may hear a beat and he give me the words that go along with the beat, you know what saying? In that sense. So it's definitely situation based ⁓ for me and I think for both of us. One thing for sure we're gonna do, and I can speak this for both of us, although we are fave.
Hey, we gonna let the Holy Spirit lead, you know what saying? So it's not gonna be a set like this how we write, this is how we do it, this is how we gotta be. No, we gonna let the Holy Spirit lead however you wanna lead, you know I'm saying? And just let it flow. And I think that the best creations come out of just like making room and being sensitive to the Holy Spirit allowing that to flow.
Won (11:29)
Yeah, and I just want to add a little something more to that. Like, I think really what we do a good job at ⁓ in the past few studio sessions, the songs that you're about to hear as they start rolling out in the near future. Like these are songs that we prayed before, like either we had a prayer.
Party like I mean like deep prayer party and then we come up and it's like, okay Well, this is what I feel like the Lord is leading us to talk about or it's just like as we're in the process of making the beat Somebody's like, okay. Well, this is what I feel like the Lord is telling me to talk about so we do a good job like a don't like Donatello said of Just really being sensitive to the Holy Spirit like if you're a Christian, I think you're a Christian creator in general
Like you wanna make an emphasis into inviting God into the things that you're creating, right? Because if you not inviting God into what you're doing, it's like, he gave you this gift and now you trying to use the gift yourself and God really be telling you like, you don't even know how to use that for real. Like come to me, come to the one who made the gift and then I'll teach you what it looks like.
to use this gift to the fullest potential.
Kevin Talley (12:51)
And I feel like, you know, when you're doing stuff for God, you have way more longevity. Like it's hard to, it's hard to be in your forties and fifties rapping about selling drugs and beating people up. know what saying? It's like, can't really do that for a
Won (13:05)
It's
hard to do it your 20s for real. It don't even matter 40, 50. I was thinking today, it's just like, dude, this music, like secular music is so draining. They talking about sex, they talking about the abuse of money. It's nothing wrong with talking about money, but I think times like we are...
We abuse money. What are we doing with this tool? Or we even idolize the money, right? And I was just listening to, shout out to Hovian. Hey, what's our boy name? ⁓ What's our dude name? Who's listening to him on the way back from the full-on video? ⁓ Nah. No, Keeyon. Yeah, Hovian, Keeyon, they just dropped the song and it was like on the... ⁓
Kevin Talley (13:49)
What one K a few?
Donutello (13:53)
you talking about Tory?
Won (14:01)
on the Apple music, like the main page, you feel me? So I click on it and I start listening to it. And of course, because it's on the main page, it's just playing like the catalog of music are just the main music, like singles that are out right now, right? So first of all, shout out to them because they was the only Christian rap song in there. So big shout out. ⁓ I know, right? Secondly, it went.
Right after the Keon Boon and Hovies song, it went straight to a 21 Savage song that just the title, just looking at the title alone, I'm like, I'm not about to listen to this. even if I wanted to just like give you a try, like look at the name of your song. Like I can't even listen to that. It's so draining. It's so draining, man. It's so draining.
Kevin Talley (14:55)
You just certain things you just can't, you can't let it just repeat itself into your spirit. It's like, what am I listening to? I mean, it's a nice beat, but after a while you like, you can't play it around your family. You can't replay it around your little niece and nephews. It's like, probably should just do this God's way. Cause God's way is everlasting. You have no sorrow added to it. You have no regrets. It's just like, yeah, it's the way to go. Like that's the truth.
Donutello (15:23)
Shoot, can't play around a family, niece and nephews, can't play it around myself. Can't play it around myself. Hey, hey, hey, for those of y'all that's listening and tapping and tuning in, man, I want you all to know, man, ⁓ no matter how much you think music doesn't have an impact or an influence, it does. What you allow into your ear gates, what you allow into your eye gates have an influence on you.
Won (15:29)
Yeah
Kevin Talley (15:29)
Okay.
Donutello (15:53)
regardless if you think it does or not.
So put some We Are ⁓
Won (15:58)
Amen.
Plain and simple. Full arm, dropping the live form.
Donutello (16:07)
⁓ yeah
Kevin Talley (16:08)
We gonna plug y'all stuff. first, I'll say introductory song. Y'all go check out Can't Get Enough. I like that one. That's I've been listening to right now. You said, I'm a, you said the devil coming at me. I'm gonna send him up better yet. I'm gonna send him back down where he came from. What was that lyric?
Won (16:19)
Yeah, that's a banger.
Donutello (16:31)
yeah, yeah, yeah. said, ⁓
come on, help me, Holy Spirit.
Kevin Talley (16:39)
Okay, that's it. On way home.
Donutello (16:43)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, I was saying, I was saying like, if the devil run up, I'ma send him up. But I was like, well, actually not because he can't get back where he came from. Like he can't get back up to where he came from. You know what saying? Because I mean, like Lucifer actually was the angel. you know what I'm saying? He came from heaven at the start. You know what saying? And so then, you feel me? Then, you know what I'm saying? He became a fallen angel and everything like that. You know I'm saying? As far as being Lucifer, as far as being the...
the adversary, you feel me, and all that. So I was just saying that, know, Sue, he can't get back up to where he came from.
Kevin Talley (17:21)
That's what I was trying to do. Yeah. Oh, that's a nice bar.
Donutello (17:25)
It is appreciate that bro for real.
Kevin Talley (17:28)
resonated with me. So, okay. So that's the icebreaker. So now we're just gonna get into, you know, a little bit more, your faith journey. what were some things that, you know, you faced obstacles that you faced in life that really helped shape your view of the necessity for God? Like, stop saying like, but what was something that happened in your life that shaped how you
how you let God direct your steps or letting Him into Him directing you when you have to overcome certain obstacles. Like, was there a certain time period in your life that happened where like, okay, God, I see how you fit into this. I see how you want me to get through this.
Donutello (18:18)
Um, I would say a certain time. Um, and one I'm a, a, I'm I'm a go into this and I'm a pass the right to you. You know what saying? But I would say a certain time for me, man, um, was just a few years ago, bro. Uh, I was living in North Carolina and, um, I was, uh, basically I got, I got offered or approached, um, with this job.
You know what saying? With his job and I had to move, know what saying? Stays for the job or whatnot. And I really wasn't like all the way really like as far as, I was on the fence as far as what my walk with God looked like. You know I'm saying? ⁓ But I call myself taking it to God, you feel me? And what he said was, he told me, don't do it. He told me, don't go.
Like actually don't go, you know what saying? But my pockets was looking like, go. Like I said, like, hey, you need to go. You know what I'm saying? This right here is actually the most money that you have made. You filled me up to the point of your life. Like, hey, you actually, you know, this makes sense for you to do this. You know what saying? So I was doing this for Bead In. And I did it anyway. And it became like one of the
like words and talks most toxic like working relationships that I had and it actually impacted me a lot like on so many different areas. ⁓ And what I can say as far as the good in it right and that God's Word is true as far as everything works out is working for our good right everything is working together for our good. I can say that 100 % that that situation although it was bad and it was like very much detrimental to me.
like in my spirit, you know what saying? ⁓ And like, basically it was me operating a disobedience. It also like allowed God to kind of break me down to the point to where it's like, I don't want to got nothing else but to lean on you God, you know I'm saying? And so it actually broke me down to the point to where I really, it really impacted me to where it's like, ⁓ I really started to take my walk with God serious. So God even used that.
even in my disobedience for me to get closer to him. And it has nothing to do with something that I did good or right, but it has everything to do with just how good he is. So that's one of those moments for me. And that was just a few years ago.
Won (20:51)
⁓ That's a deep question. I'm going to tell you that right now, bro. That is a deep question. ⁓ I think the real disciples will tell you that there are multiple moments, right? Times where we feel like, we striving, we running for God. And then it's like a reality check when it's like, ⁓
I really didn't even know you God. And so it's a constant cycle of you think you know God and then he gives you new revelation. Right. And I think that's the beauty of chasing God. For me, I guess the first moment that pops up to my head is I had just lost my job at Target. I was working at Target and I was like...
three, four months behind on my rent. Like I'm getting eviction notices after eviction notices, but I continue to hear the Lord just like, keep serving me, keep serving me, keep serving me. And at this point in time, I mean, I'm reading my Bible. I'm looking up like the Hebrew translations. Really it was the story of Job for me, like, because I felt like I had gave away everything for God.
I had sacrificed my job, I had sacrificed my relationship, I had sacrificed certain friendships. And I was really just like, if I wasn't at home in my Bible, I was at the church serving. And I felt God telling me to do certain things. Just felt a huge calling that he was telling me to do certain things. And everything that he told me to do when I did it, it looked like it had a negative result. I don't know if y'all know about the story of Job, but...
Essentially, the Bible says that Job was an upright and righteous man. And we really didn't see this was before Jesus, right? So before Jesus, nobody had died for our sins, right? And so we see God himself say that Job was upright and righteous. So that tells you what kind of man that Job was. It says that when Job's children would go to sin,
They would go party and you know what Job would do? He would pray over them. He would make sacrifices just in case they did sin. And so what does the devil do? He comes to God and he's like, hey, you see Job down there? You see Job down there? And God's like, yeah, that's my perfect servant. And the devil's like, yeah, but he only perfect because you gave him these things. And God's like, nah, that's not it. So then the devil begins to, one, he asked God.
to go ahead and harm Job. That tells you something right there. The devil has no authority. God has the utmost authority. Even the devil has to go to God to ask him if he can do certain things. And so when the devil hits Job with all type of body blows, he takes all his livestock. He takes the lives of his children. Job loses his wife, loses his friends. Job is now sick. You feel me? He's going through all of these trials and tribulations. And to Job,
He hadn't done anything wrong. He was just being an upright man, man of God. And I felt like in this season where I really got closer to God, that's what I was doing. I was literally just being obedient to God. So why was I losing my job? Why was I getting kicked out of my church? Why was I being uprooted from friendships? Why was I losing my relationships? Why was I facing these eviction notices? And that's when I started having to really lean in.
and trust in God. Because what happened at the end of Job? God came back and gave Job everything back. Not only did he give him everything back, he gave him more than he had. Come on now. He gave him more than he had. And so at that point in time, that's when I was like, okay, all right, God, I see you. I see you now. I ended up getting a better job, getting a better apartment, getting better friends, finding my community. It wasn't in the church building. ⁓
But I found my community with two specific individuals that I still talk to to this day and they just constantly pour into me.
Kevin Talley (25:21)
That's what's up. Yeah, that.
We had to, I had to learn that too. Just, Oh God operates like we can't take anything with us when we die. And we didn't come into this world with anything that he gave wherever we have God gave to us. And he just wants us to know like, Hey, I'm still in control. You're going to be with me forever. And when you pass away from this earth. So I just had to remind you in certain ways, if you lose this, you're still going to be fine. If you, if you work, if you work for this and it didn't turn out right, still going to be fine.
because I still got glory from that. I'm gonna reward you later. It might not happen immediately, but you still gonna be fine in the meantime. Just know that I'm God, see you, I'm in control of your life. that's how it is. Like that's how it is with
I would really like for y'all to plug y'all's, know, upcoming projects, your social media. And yeah, start with you one.
Won (26:20)

You know what saying? This right here is a new thing. Just like, hey,
God is doing a new thing. But we praise him in advance because we already know ⁓ how good our God is. see what saying? So we just thank him. We thank him for what he's gonna do that he hadn't even done yet, but we know is already in the works. So thank you, Lord. Straight like that.
Won (28:36)
Amen.
Kevin Talley (28:38)
That's what's up. And you also got some directing, right? You got some directing and photography.

Kevin Talley (30:55)
I'm try. Yeah, I'm going get people. I got people already on contacting me.

We gonna walk about it. hey, every two weeks, I'ma, look, I'm here. You like where it's at, what our episode at. You feel me? I'm here, hey. I want you to know you got, you look, this was an interview, right? This is awesome. Thank you so much for allowing two out of the three members of We Are Faith to be a special guest.
But I want you to know, you didn't just get some special guests to pop up on here, you got some accountability partners as well. Okay? Because we ain't gonna talk about it, we gonna walk about it. One, go ahead, bro.
Won (31:39)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. What Don said. And he means that with the utmost seriousness. think right now, Tally, the importance of what you're doing now is staying consistent because what Don and I worked on, We Are Faith has been in the works for about four or five months now. You feel me? Like this, y'all just now seeing us, but this is something that we've been working on. And so I just encourage you, man, like keep going.
keep pushing everybody else that's listening out there. Like if you got a vision, give it to God, find the right people, continue to work on it, stay accountable, get you some accountability partners and it's going to come to fruition. We are the example of that. We Are Faith is the prime example of that. Very, very seriously, man. But hey, don't duck us now, because we gonna hit you up. We gonna hit you up and be like, we're the podcast that...
I need you to come through. You said bi-weekly. I'm gonna hit you up like I'm hitting them up for my paychecks. I need that.
Kevin Talley (32:47)
